The successful completion of the 18-month project to demolish and rebuild Wharf 7 at Eastland Port. The construction was to build a 255 metre deck-on-pile wharf to improve operational longevity.  The new upgrade plays a pivotal role in accommodating larger vessels and opening the door to a range of new trade opportunities.
Pacific Steelfixing Limited was awarded this foundation project directly under construction specialists McConnell Dowell. Our contributing steel fixing works for the project begun in September 2022 with the final rebar tied in August 2023.    There were challenges along the way, including Cyclone Gabrielle, but with positive collaboration and resilience between stakeholders, main contractors and subcontractors the project was completed successfully.
Pacific Steelfixing Limited was immensely proud to be able to collaborate with main contractors, stakeholders and subcontractors and be a part of a remarkable achievement that will continue to benefit the region for decades to come.
State Highway 25A Taparahi between Kōpū and Hikuai suffered significant damage with the road collapsing after the North Island’s major storm event in late January 2023, Cyclone Hale. During the Auckland Anniversary weekend storm event, a large section of the highway at the summit collapsed and slipped away.
The underslip deteriorated further after the devastation of Cyclone Gabrielle. A bridge was confirmed as the best option to fix the damaged section of SH25A and was selected as it would reconnect the Coromandel Peninsula communities quicker.
Approached to work with McConnell Dowell again, after the success of the Eastland Port Wharf Upgrade, and to have the opportunity to also work alongside main contractor Fulton Hogan on such a significant project after a devastating weather event was eagerly undertaken by Pacific Steelfixing Limited crews.
